The things money can't buy

A quarter bottle of Old Monk rum- 122 bucks

A small bottle of Pepsi to have with the rum- 25 bucks

Water to go with it- 12 bucks.

Expressions on the faces of the over-the-hill uncles and just-hit puberty boys at the liquor store (a palatial one at that) watching two girls animatedly walking around the store and discussing what to buy, picking up bottles, considering them, finally deciding on one and confidently paying the bill, meeting the cashier uncle in the eye- PRICELESS.

  1. Priceless indeed.

There is just one question that begs to be asked; Why didn't you Video record the moment? The expressions on the face of the onlookers would have had all the makings of a 'Most Watched' youtube video.

And what were you doing looking at the cashier uncle instead of admiring the curves of the bottle?:D

  3. Love it, love it, love it. Failings of a patriarchal society. The son can drink, the daughter cannot. The humor behind this painful truth is just lovely!

  28. I don't get it. What's so great about getting those stares? So it's cool to drink, and also flaunt it like this?

Sorry, but I am not too fond of such sentiments girls have, when they
    a) either drink.
    b) show-off that they drink.

So you drink. Great. Now can we move on?

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Vinitha: Yup, you're right. It's pretty clear that you didn't get it and missed the whole point of the post.

If you do think that I'm one of those girls who flaunts their drinking, then you're most welcome to unfollow me. Because yes, I do drink, and the references will come up in future as well. Not because I want to show off, but because I'm honest about it. There's a difference, you know. Just like there is a difference between commenting and being rude. I don't drink to prove anything to anybody. I drink because I enjoy it. Just because you don't enjoy it, doesn't mean it's a bad thing, right? If you don't like what I write about my life, then don't read it. As simple as that. :)

Oh and we DID move on, you see. We moved on to two more posts after this. :)

  30. Ah. Somehow it appears to me, that all's well in blog world, as long as you agree to agree with the post. The moment one disagrees - one is shown the door (like here, I was asked to unfollow, if I don't like it). Point is - just as you wrote what you felt, I did too. Now, it's not necessary that we've to agree on all things. And I think it's fair that I can express my views.

Coming back to the comment - my response was also after I read the comment thread as well. All the girls pitching in with the 'yeah-I-too-got-those-stares' *wink*wink* kinda posts. It made me feel that it was some sort of achievement. Maybe it's me, or I got it wrong.

And no amount of 'smileys' in your reply is gonna hide how bugged you were when you saw my comment! :D
And yeah, I wasn't trying to be 'rude'(as you very obviously hinted).

  31. Stepping out in a jeans and kurta brings eyes popping out here.

    Liquor namukku haraamanu :D
But still I'm tempted to find out what the outcome will be. In my pursuit for PRICELESS I don't want to make someone LIFELESS by giving them an attack.

  33. @Vinitha: Like I said, you missed the whole point of the post. And if your intention was to bug me, then congrats, you succeeded. I have neither the skill nor the inclination, not to mention energy, for a comment-war. So whatever you said is right. You win. Hurray! And whether you want to stick around is also entirely your wish. But if I want to write about drinking or smoking or drugs or sex, I don't think I should be made to feel bad about it. If 'To each his own' is your policy, then so is mine.

    Ciao! Have a good weekend.

  34. @Shadia: Haha!! :D Oh yes, an attack is very much a possibility. :D
